The semi-finals of the FIH Hockey World League were held in Valencia in June 2015. This was where the top three women's national teams qualified not only for the final but also for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. The players in the Campo de Hockey de Valencia have already been able to test the quality of the turf that will be laid in Brazil's Deodoro Olympic Park. This city on Spain's Mediterranean coast was where Polytan installed the world's first Poligras Platinum CoolPlus hockey pitch, the official surface for the hockey tournaments in Rio and the successor product to the 2012 Games in London. The difference between the two hockey turfs is the higher stitch density, which produces an even more compact appearance. While the pitches in Rio are to be blue like those in London, they will have a green border to match the colours of the Brazilian flag. The Campo de Hockey de Valencia opted for the same blue pitch as in London and Rio. Its bright colour enhances the contrast between the turf and the ball. The chosen pitch border was orange, however. A distinctive feature was the way in which the name of the local hockey club was incorporated into the orange surface in one-metre-high blue letters along one side of the pitch.
